Innovating to Close Success Gaps: The National Institute for Student Success
The National Institute for Student Success (NISS) at Georgia State University, led by Timothy Renick, Ph.D., was founded in 2020 with the purpose of transferring the lessons learned about student success at Georgia State to other universities. The NISS operates on the following core principles:
1.Institutions inadvertently hinder student success through policies, practices, and structures that are among the key drivers of success gaps.
2.Institutions can use data to identify and understand these barriers to completion.
3.With the right coaching and support, institutions can create more equitable enrollment, retention, and graduation outcomes.
The NISS guides university leadership through predictive and prescriptive data analysis with the intention of diagnosing institutional areas of need and offering implementation support.
