Karen Vickers joined Georgia State University in 2023 as a College Human Resources Officer after thirteen years of budget and operations management experience at Kennesaw State University.
Prior to KSU, she had over 10 years of experience in the solid waste industry, overseeing state and local solid waste and recycling programs. As Program Coordinator for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ Office of Environmental Management, she headed Georgia’s first comprehensive statewide recycling education outreach campaign (the “You Gotta Be Kidding!” campaign) and produced the “Single Stream Recycling in Georgia” educational DVD for statewide distribution and YouTube broadcast.
Karen holds a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication Management from the University of Florida. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree at KSU and anticipates graduating with an MBA in May 2027.
As a triathlete, Karen has completed 2 half Ironman distance triathlons (70.3 miles total: 1.2 mile swim/56 mile bike/13.1 mile run) and multiple Olympic and Sprint distance races. She hopes to complete her first full Ironman by 2030.
